This chick reminds us of the little fuzzy things we saw in the pet supply store. Huck had to wait in the car while Mom ran in with me (Tom). I needed a crate and she said she couldn't handle the both of us and shop. So there were these little fuzzy toys that kept making this "peep peep" noise. Mom let me peek in the box they were in. They were the most awesome toys I have ever seen/smelled/heard! She said she was glad Huckleberry didn't come in too because he would have tried to eat one! (Don't tell Huck that though!) They were selling "kits" of a cage and other supplies and the chick for one price. Mom thought this was strange (who goes to a pet store to buy chicks?) until she realized it was almost Easter! Why else would they be selling "chick packages"? I wanted one but Mom said no way. It made her sad. What were people going to do with the cute chicks once they were no longer cute little chicks? Those cages were not big enough to fit a chicken inside!
Living a a rural area, there are a lot of farms nearby so some people could have the resources and land to happily keep chickens. Still, it's not a good idea to give live animals as gifts. Choosing to have fuzzy/furry/feathery friends is a big commitment.
Mom saw this on Balboa's blog and would like to share it: Make Mine Chocolate. What a great campaign! You can't go wrong with chocolate (only if you are a human--no chocolate for Huck and Tom). We love to support anything that stands for responsible pet ownership!
Happy Spring, furry friends!
