TomTom Update
Sorry for the absence. I have been very busy dealing with my new miniature bro, Tom. Sometimes we are a handful for Mom. Like Friday morning when Mom was so tired and trying to rush off to work. She went to let us out to do our business but I bolted out the door and straight for the pond (AKA goose toilet)! I have not done this in a while because I'm usually pretty obedient and listen to Mom. She was only able to catch me when I finally stopped dashing all over the place to poop.
From experiences like these, she has realized there is a direct correlation between how obedient I am and how much pent up psycho-terrier energy is stored inside me, just waiting to be released. For example, after I get to run around and wrestle with my bro, I am as docile and compliant as Lassie. But in the mornings, when I get let out of my crate after being in there for several hours, I am more akin to an ADHD kindergartener on a sugar rush.
Mom says I have become a better dog since Tom came along. Tom needs to lighten up a bit though. He is possessive of bones and treats with me but not with the humans. When Tom is chewing on something and I come over to check it out, he does this Grrrrrrr rrrrr rrrr noise that drives me nutso! I start jumping all around and barking at him which makes him even madder so he starts yipping at me. Then that makes me even more crazy so I start running all around at top speed with Tom chasing me, bitting my heels. It's quite a show! It makes Mom and Dad mad because of all the loud noise so then they get in on the action by yelling at us. We could have a sitcom. Mom keeps trying to get our silliness on film but usually she is too occupied with trying to shut us up to remember to get the camera rolling.
Tom is a funny little guy. He LOVES to licklicklick. His teeth are funny looking so Mom thinks that is why he has his tongue hanging out a lot. (Tom had 2 teeth extracted before we got him and his bottom teeth are crooked.) When ever he comes up to you, expect lots of stinky kisses. He has very stinky breath. Mom has bought all sorts of different things to freshen it up. No progress on that yet...
More to come on Tom! Here are some silly pics! Tom has a favorite nap spot.
Also a big hello to our new terrier buddies Scruffy, Lacie & Babystan, Asta Marie, Maggie & Mitch and the Thuglets! We love your blogs!!

Lessons from Your Dog
If a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
Take naps.
Stretch before rising.
Run, romp, and play daily.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
When you’re happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
Be loyal.
Never pretend to be something you’re not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.

An Easter Message from Huck & Tom
This chick reminds us of the little fuzzy things we saw in the pet supply store. Huck had to wait in the car while Mom ran in with me (Tom). I needed a crate and she said she couldn't handle the both of us and shop. So there were these little fuzzy toys that kept making this "peep peep" noise. Mom let me peek in the box they were in. They were the most awesome toys I have ever seen/smelled/heard! She said she was glad Huckleberry didn't come in too because he would have tried to eat one! (Don't tell Huck that though!) They were selling "kits" of a cage and other supplies and the chick for one price. Mom thought this was strange (who goes to a pet store to buy chicks?) until she realized it was almost Easter! Why else would they be selling "chick packages"? I wanted one but Mom said no way. It made her sad. What were people going to do with the cute chicks once they were no longer cute little chicks? Those cages were not big enough to fit a chicken inside!
Living a a rural area, there are a lot of farms nearby so some people could have the resources and land to happily keep chickens. Still, it's not a good idea to give live animals as gifts. Choosing to have fuzzy/furry/feathery friends is a big commitment.
Mom saw this on Balboa's blog and would like to share it: Make Mine Chocolate. What a great campaign! You can't go wrong with chocolate (only if you are a human--no chocolate for Huck and Tom). We love to support anything that stands for responsible pet ownership!
Happy Spring, furry friends!

Wrestlemania
I was trying to get a cute pic of Tom & Huck cuddling on the couch. And of course it turned into wrestlemania. At first I thought Huck was the pesty instigator, as he is so high energy and playful. Huck will bark and playfully nip at other dogs so they will get annoyed chase him. He loves to be chased. But now I have realized that Tom is not really the poor victim I thought he was! I will get Huck all calmed down and then little "innocent" Tom will come up to Huck and do a little teaser growl, "urrrrrrrrrrrrrr", that is just enough to get Huck all amped up again!

TomTom!
Huck now has a brother! His name is Tom (or TomTom or Little Tom). He is a ShihPoo and about 2 yrs old. He is a rescue from Helping Paws. Things have been crazy but fun with 2 dogs. Huck and Tom get along great. We think that Tom will soon be the Alpha dog because he bosses Huck around. Huck doesn't seem to mind--he is happy as long as Tom will wrestle with him.
If anyone has tips on how to introduce a new dog to the family, please share!! We are new at this!

Helpful Huckleberry part II

As you already know, I am a helpful terrier. I try to do my best to help out around the house. (Please see my post Handy Huckle to read about me folding all the laundry) So when my dad shaved his head I did my best to help clean up afterwards. My dad has his own clippers just like me. As he was shaving his head, I helped out by picking up the hair. My mom did not realize the extent of my helpfulness until my dad's hair began coming out of my butt when I was pooping outside. Though she had found some in my water bowl and all over the carpet and stuck to my beard, she didn't realize I had vacuum-like abilities to ingest hair. I can't believe that she didn't know I would do this because she finds all sort of fun things in my poop all the time. Silly Mom. Just call me Dyson!
Why am I in trouble again?

Dog Commandments
I found this stumbling and had to share. I really enjoyed it.
The 10 Commandments of a Dog
- Remember BEFORE you adopt me that my life is likely to last 10-15 years
- Give me time to understand what you want of me.
- Place your trust in me. It’s crucial for my well-being.
- Don’t be angry with me for long, and don’t lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your entertainment, and your friends. I have only YOU.
- Talk to me everyday. Even if I don’t understand your words, I understand what is in your voice.
- Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.
- Remember that before you hit me that I have teeth that could crush the bones in your hand, but I CHOOSE not to bite you.
- Before you scold me for being uncooperative, obstinate or lazy, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I’m not getting the right food, or been out in the sun too long, or my heart is getting old and weak.
- Take care of me when I get old. You too will grow old someday.
- Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say “I can’t bear to watch it” or “take him to the back and end it”. EVERYTHING is easier for me if you are there. Any separation from you will be painful for me especially toward the end of my life.

This is my dog.
But it's a cat, I know. But this is exactly how Huck wakes me up every morning. There is more of him sitting on my head though.
Every morning is Christmas for Huck. That is very "canine" of him. He wakes up and is SO excited to get up and be let outside!! OH BOY! WAKE UP HUMAN! TIME TO GO PEE!

Puppy Bowl
Right now we humans are out of town for a wedding. Huck is playing with his schnoodle buddy, Mason, and his only kitten friend, Booger. I wish we were not allergic to cats because I would totally adopt a kitten so that Huck could have a friend. oh well.
We will be back tomorrow for the big game. And by big game I of course mean PUPPY BOWL IV!!! I hope Huck will be into it too. We watch Dog Whisperer together (Huck kinda pays attention) and I practically take notes! My favorite part of Puppy Bowl is the water bowl camera. So cute!

Wii Want To Play
Huck does not understand video games. He thinks the Wii controller is a toy that his humans are having so much fun playing with --without HIM. So below is a video of Huck trying to get in on the action.

Huck's New Favorite
Huck has MANY toys (see Jan. 10 post). His new absolute favorite "toy" is an Amazon cardboard box. I think he likes it so much because it makes a lot of noise when he drags it around and flings it in the air.

Wrestlemania
Huck and Mason could be brothers. Seeing them wrestle is very entertaining. Be sure to check out the new videos posted on youtube!

Presents!
Huck got a BUNCH of dog toys in his stocking. He loves to go raid his toy basket and randomly place them through out the house. I am constantly picking up after him, whether it is retrieving all the strewn toys or picking up the stuffing from a destroyed toy! I tried to turn the tables on this game Huck has created for me and bought him a nice toy that would "stimulate" him. It was this neat stuffed horse with detachable limbs. It lasted ONE DAY. Huck "disemboweled" it. Fluff EVERYWHERE. UGH. No more nice toys for you, Huck.

Overdue NJ Xmas
These are belated NJ Christmas pics. Huck and Copper the beagle met and have became buddies. They followed each other around and swiped the other's treats. Some of the pics are from October, but cute anyway.

Virginia
Huck did great in the car! It was a long trip. He just sat in the back seat, looking out the window the entire time. He also loved all the rest stops--getting to 'mark' territory all up and down the East coast was very exciting for him!
Now that we're here, Huck and his cousins the Shitzu/poodles, Buddy and Benji are getting along well. Huck has a lot more energy than them and will pester them so they will get angry and chase him. He loves their fenced in yard. Huck also loves having so many humans around to get affection from.
Huck had so much energy that he had to do the treadmill. The weather was bad and Mom was sick so it was 'treadmill trotting time' to burn off all that crazy terrier energy! It was very successful! Huck was asleep by 8 pm instead of his usually 11 or 12!
We went to Virginia Beach for New Year's. Huck and Missy the coon hound met again. Missy seemed to like Huck better than their Thanksgiving meeting when she would 'yell' at him to stop pestering her. Huck LOVED Belle, the pit mix. She is into the wrestling/chasing thing so they are best buds. The Rondorfs have a very cool home. The dogs could run around by the river while their humans chilled in the hot tub. Silly (read: stupid) Huck decided to jump in the pool instead of just drinking from it like the other dogs. He scared Mom to death because he couldn't find the stairs to get back out. Mom thought he was drowning but then he frantically waded back to the stairs as she was yelling and running for the pool to save him. The Rondorfs also had a cat and a little chinese crested, Jax. But I don't think Huck ever realized there was a cat in the house and that Jax even is a dog because he was so enamored with Belle.
I learned why some badbadbad humans use pits for fighting: they are excellent wrestlers. I have never seen a dog so expertly flip and pin Huck. It was very entertaining to watch. Huck just kept coming back for more!

Huck's Magic Box
I don't know about you two, but I'm ready to go.
Are we there yet?
We're getting ready for our big road trip up the East coast. This will be our first trip with Huck--10 hours in the car! We took Huck's crate out of the car so we could pack up. Huck jumped right in! He associates his crate with the park or somewhere else exciting. When I get in my crate, it takes me fun places!
If anyone has any tips for road tripping with a high energy pooch, please share!
We can't wait to go home, especially to have Huck come too and meet all his canine "cousins": Copper (my family's beagle) and Buddy & Benji (Tyler's family's Shitzu/Poodles). We are confident Huck will love (i.e. chase, wrestle, pester) everyone, but will everyone love Huck? We shall see!!!
